About Slow Hours
Slow Hours is a small weekly journal about doing considered work in a world that keeps insisting you go faster.
It is written by Meredith Vale, a former editor turned independent writer, from a small flat in a coastal town she does not name in print. She has been writing this journal every Sunday morning since March 2023, and has, so far, missed exactly two Sundays — one for a wedding, one for the flu.
There are no sponsors. There are no affiliate links. There is no course, no cohort, no six-figure funnel behind the curtain. There is a person, a kettle, a notebook, and about 1,200 words a week.
What you can expect
- One essay in your inbox on Sunday morning, roughly the length of a long café read.
- No newsletter about the newsletter. No "Hey friends 👋" openers.
- Occasional letters between issues if something small is worth saying, and silence when it is not.
Who reads it
Mostly independent workers. Writers, designers, tiny software teams, a surprising number of doctors and lawyers, a handful of new parents, and one very kind bookshop owner in Cork. If you are one of them, thank you for reading.
If you would like to write in, the address is on the contact page. Emails are read; replies are slow but real.
